TYLER HINES
FOUNDER AND MENTOR
During Tyler’s offseason, he began prioritizing training young athletes and also taught the importance of making good life choices that foster a promising future. Since high school, and well into his professional career, Tyler was relied upon to execute several important on-court roles, each showcasing his ability to make others better, and these specialized qualities have poured into his unparalleled ability to uplift the community and its respective youth leaders. Tyler maintains an active leadership role within THBA and is proudly involved in various community affairs and philanthropic efforts. Tyler is the Vice President of Team Hines Basketball Academy, working closely with children ages five through 18 and awarding local scholar-athletes with funding toward their college careers. His focus remains on building a better, more prosperous future for the local youth, molding their physical skillset and mental strength to develop sound leaders of tomorrow. Based on experience, it is Tyler’s calling to help the youth in his area to not only become great athletes but to guide them to becoming even better people. South Jersey native, Tyler Hines, began his athletic career making history at his local high school, Timber Creek High School, as he was part of the first team to win a state title (2008), which led Tyler a full basketball scholarship to the University of Maryland Eastern Shore. After graduation from UMES, Tyler signed his first professional basketball contract with Peristeri BC in Greece, where he developed and solidified his reputation as an athlete who focused on his role and focused well, leading his team to victories and individual, on-court successes. Throughout the next seven years, Tyler played on various professional teams throughout Europe – in Serbia, Austria, Cyprus, and Germany, to name in a few. As his professional career continued to embody and mirror the principals and values of his historic high school years, Tyler then began to pursue another one of his dreams – building Team Hines Basketball Academy & Just a Kid From Sicklerville Mentoring and Leadership Program, exemplifying his undying passion for the youth, their respective growth, and integrating the game of basketball in their unique journeys.
CHRIS MARTIN
MENTOR
Chris' background includes several years experience working with D-1 basketball players, special needs students, and youth of various ages. Martin proudly advocates for the youth, working in tandem with an array of community agencies, mental health professionals, and families to provide stable environments. As a positive thinker, Chris believes everyone has a purpose, and with encouragement and determination, everyone can succeed. On the basketball side, Chris' love for basketball started at a young age and afforded him many opportunities he wouldn't have otherwise experienced. As a scholarship athlete for Wagner College, Chris earned his degree in sociology and performed as a three-year started for the men's basketball team. Once his education was complete, his college coach, Dan Hurley, hired him at the University of Rhode Island as a Graduate Assistant, where he was later promoted to Assistant Director of Basketball Operations. This experience allowed Chris to gain valuable knowledge and learn how to manage different personalities and situations. Four years later, Chris felt led to teach, as he is now a teacher at Timber Creek High School. The wisdom he's gained has proved beneficial to each child he has taught and mentored as they transition into adulthood.
